Hamburg and the topic of medicine and healthcare – it’s a match! Why? Perhaps our congress centre, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg, comes to mind first. Since its opening in 1973, the congress centre has been home to a high number of medical congresses, giving the city a clear focus on healthcare. And from spring 2022, the new CCH will officially open its doors, with more space, more flexibility and sustainability. But Hamburg also stands out in its entirety as an ideal location for meetings and congresses in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical sectors.
Numerous smaller to larger locations and conference hotels in the heart of the city, short distances and a high level of medical expertise draw the picture of a city that understands and meets the requirements of planners, companies and organisers in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors. Would you like to learn more about Hamburg? Then we would like to take you to Hamburg in a short video!
We are confident that Hamburg can offer what you and your company need. We and our service providers at the location are aware of the regulations and demands of the healthcare industry. Healthcare Infrastruktur
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the largest city in Europe that is not a capital. And yet Hamburg is a “hidden gem”. A jewel within the meeting industry that appears with maritime charm and a classic Hanseatic understatement. Here, the “we” stands above the “I” and business and topic-oriented solutions are found that suit all parties involved without much fanfare.
Hamburg is a city with character and exciting contrasts. For companies and associations, the metropolis at the river Elbe offers not only a good scientific infrastructure but also ideal conditions for healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical events.
The city offers numerous hotels and locations that meet the requirement profiles of healthcare events. A high level of experience and understanding of individual rules and regulations enables relaxed meetings and get-togethers. Supporting programmes within the industry can also be organised: A broad scientific spectrum, from the Paediatric Heart Centre to the Tropical Institute, characterise a city that is at home in many disciplines.

Science and economy
Strong brands and companies such as Beiersdorf – known worldwide not only for the blue pot with the “Nivea” logo – or Philips Medical Systems, have their headquarters in Hamburg. Olympus and Eppendorf are other big names in the medical world. The vicinity to Lübeck – which belongs to the metropolitan region of the Hanseatic city and is an important region for medical technology – also speaks for itself.
Healthcare is at home in Hamburg! Its own university hospital, medical degree programmes at numerous universities and a high focus on education and training flank the basis that makes Hamburg a relevant player within the healthcare sector. Numerous applied projects and businesses such as Philips’ Health Innovation Port, which serves as a collaboration space, incubator, accelerator, community and knowledge platform, are lighthouse projects. Because there the focus is not on competition but on collaboration: start-ups from the health sector and established players in the health industry are brought together to jointly shape the future of health care.
Cooperation, collaboration and strong networks are also actively driven forward by the city: The “Life Science Nord” cluster, funded by Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, is a regional industry network for medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals for the states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

CCH - Congress Center Hamburg
Welcome to one of the largest and most modern Congress Centers in Europe! Over the past decades, many national and international medical congresses at the CCH have launched important innovations that have made history from Hamburg. The new CCH – Congress Center Hamburg offers perfect conditions for top-class scientific and association congresses. And it is sustainable and barrier-free.
After several years of modernisation and renovation, the CCH boasts 12,000 square metres of exhibition space, 12,000 square metres of foyer space and 12,000 seats and is one of the top congress centres in Europe. Up to 50 multifunctional halls are distributed over four levels and the three event areas West, Central and East. The three areas are accessible via separate entrances and exits. That is flexibility³. The new CCH offers the ideal conditions for the high demands of modern congresses and events in terms of technology, new event formats and sustainability.
The location of the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is also absolutely unique. Only 20 minutes from the airport and with the Dammtor long-distance railway station right on the doorstep, the surrounding area is also attractive for congresses and conferences: 8,000 hotel beds are located within a radius of two kilometres around the CCH. Whether a highly functional business hotel with all conference and communication options or a charming private hotel, the accommodation options are diverse. And perfect for breaks: the CCH is located right next to the popular park “Planten un Blomen”.

Short distances
Hamburg, located in the north of Europe, can be reached via many different routes. Not only by car, bus and train but of course also by plane and, as a port city, even by boat or ferry. When you arrive in Hamburg, you will notice that Hamburg is a city of short distances. The airport, which is only ten kilometres from Hamburg city centre, is perfectly connected to public transport.
Here, the train not only goes directly to the door of our congress centre, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg, but also to the city centre, as both are only a few minutes’ walk apart. Within the city, you don’t necessarily have to rely on a car in Hamburg. The public transport system is excellent, many things can be reached by foot and if you want, you can simply use one of Hamburg’s city bikes, which are Hamburg’s official bike-sharing service.
Overall, Hamburg is very innovative, especially when it comes to transport – many sustainable mobility providers meet CO2-neutral transport service providers for events of all sizes. The Rotary International Convention 2019 is a great example of this: The world congress – with 27,000 participants after all – completely avoided individual transport for the participants and realised the congress, including the entire supporting programme, exclusively with public transport.
As you can see, the possibilities in Hamburg are numerous! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of our partners who we can recommend with full conviction for your healthcare event!

Empire Riverside Hotel
If you want to enjoy a unique view of the city when visiting Hamburg, you should head for a very wonderful address: The Empire Riverside Hotel impresses with a spectacular panoramic view over Hamburg, the harbour and the Elbe. None other than the British star architect David Chipperfield designed the unique bronze tower, which rises into the sky as an integral part of Hamburg’s harbour silhouette. The private hotel is part of a long and exciting history, as it was the second major hotel project of the founder Willi Bartels and was built in the immediate vicinity of the traditional Hotel Hafen Hamburg. Both hotels have been in the owner family ever since.
327 rooms and suites in a timelessly elegant ambience open up sensational views over Hamburg through panoramic glazing. Eight flexible conference rooms with a total area of 1,200sqm offer space for up to 1,000 people and events of all sizes. The entire conference area is flooded with natural light and paves the way for creative processes.
Three food & beverage outlets provide culinary delights without forgetting the Hanseatic flair: The “waterkant” restaurant offers fresh fish gently prepared in the open show kitchen, “DAVID’s Bar & Lounge” is the perfect place to relax in an elegant atmosphere and a very special highlight awaits visitors 90 metres above the Elbe in the Skyline Bar “20up” with probably the most beautiful view over Hamburg.
