Unique venues for large scale events!

We love events! But what we love even more are our event locations! Because Hamburg has numerous wonderful, unique and, above all, large locations in the city. There is something for every size and every preference. Hamburg can host large events and congresses!

We would like to take you with us today and introduce you to some exciting locations where you can experience that little bit extra in terms of size and possibilities.

Hamburg – the liveable metropolis at the river Elbe. And the port for your next event? Granted, Hamburg scores mainly with Hanseatic understatement, but we can also be “big-headed”. Whether it’s the Rotary International Convention 2019, the ITS World Congress 2022 or even the Online Marketing Rockstars, which could count around 70,000 visitors in 2022: Hamburg is the ideal venue when it comes to big events!

Of course, Hamburg is a trade fair city and has a real pearl in its location portfolio with the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg. But Hamburg is also convincing beyond the typical large-scale locations. Whether maritime, chic Hanseatic or urban and creative: event planners have a wide choice when they want to hold their event in Hamburg.

Maritime encounters

What do seagulls, ” Friesennerz” and sailor’s caps have in common? They are extremely maritime and virtually inseparable from Hamburg! Equally inseparable from the city are our locations, which perhaps only exist in this form in Hamburg. We’ll start with the topic of cruises, because for us cruising doesn’t just mean big boats and sea voyages. For us, cruising also means meetings and events.

We have two locations in Hamburg that are not only cruise terminals but also event spaces. The Cruise Center Baakenhöft offers around 800 m² of space and a capacity of up to 700 people for a wide variety of event formats such as conferences, corporate or cultural events, trade fairs and galas. The Cruise Center Steinwerder is even larger: two light-flooded terminals (2,400 m² and 1,750 m²) each offer space for up to 1,400 people – and a great view of Hamburg’s old town and the container port.

The next two large venues are maritime, steeped in history and yet modern. With Schuppen 52, Hamburg has a venue up its sleeve that was already highly frequented in imperial times. The classic quayside shed – more than a hundred years old after all – offers a magnificent view of Hamburg’s city panorama across the Elbe. The hard facts also read spectacularly: up to 3,000 people can be accommodated on around 6,000 m², the imposing, heritage-protected and history-steeped hall is flexible and can be divided or reduced in size as required.

Another absolute gem is also located directly at the Elbe: the Altona Fish Auction Hall. The historic building from 1896 offers a great view of the Elbe, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall and the harbour cranes that are iconic for Hamburg. The atmosphere is raw, charming and authentic industrial style. 3,500 m² of floor space and a seating capacity of 2,500 guests and more offers the ideal setting for any kind of event – be it a trade fair, show, conference or gala evening.

If you want to be really exclusive, you can rent the Cap San Diego. It is impossible to imagine Hamburg’s harbour panorama without this location. The largest museum cargo ship in the world is not only a steel-formed Hamburg legend, it also offers space for up to 1,000 guests in various rooms.

Hanseatic venues in the city centre

We move from Altona to Hamburg’s city centre, where two large venues present themselves in a wonderfully Hanseatic style. One of them is the CURIO-HAUS. A location with a great and long history. Completed in 1911 as a society house, it was a meeting place for artists and intellectuals in the 1920s. Today it is a setting that exudes the charm of Hamburg. On a total of 1,800 m² in up to ten rooms, various ideas can be realised at the same time. So how about an event within an event? The CURIO-HAUS has a total capacity of up to 1,500 guests, and you can be sure that every single one of them will experience Hamburg in a very special way!

Another place where you can feel the Hanseatic atmosphere very strongly is the time-honoured Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, which, in addition to its actual function, is also a very special event location with a good portion of Hamburg charm. The centrepieces are the impressive Börsensaal and Commerzsaal. But the Chamber of Commerce also offers excellent facilities, as there are seven conference rooms in addition to the two halls. The Chamber of Commerce thus offers a typically Hamburg setting for major events, meetings, lecture events, general meetings or specialist conferences.

Let’s go to the fair

There are very few metropolises in the world that are in the fortunate position of being able to offer both a trade fair centre and a congress centre directly in the heart of the city. Hamburg is one of them. Connected by the park “Planten un Blomen”, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg and the exhibition grounds form a unique campus.

The Hamburg exhibition grounds are the city’s largest event location. The modern, light-flooded grounds by the television tower attract numerous successful trade fairs and other events every year. Eleven halls with 87,000 m2 of exhibition space and 10,000 m2 of outdoor space offer plenty of room for small, fine concepts or large events. In addition to the hall booked in each case, accompanying conferences and congresses can be held in the adjoining conference areas.

The new CCH – Congress Center Hamburg – one of the largest and most modern congress centres in Europe is located just a few minutes’ walk from the exhibition grounds. A total area of 36,000 m² and a total of 12,000 visitors who can be in the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg at the same time speak a clear language – the new CCH sets standards! Up to 50 multifunctional halls offer event planners maximum flexibility for events with 500 or more participants.

Industrial Chic

Hamburg is not only characterised by Hanseatic flair or the Alster, Elbe and Michel. Hamburg is a city of contrasts. And that’s why we can not only be chic, but also rough. With the Edelfettwerk we have such an exciting location and with this venue in Hamburg Eidelstedt we open the circle of “industrial locations”. The old factory building for – as the name suggests – noble fats scores with approx. 3500 m² distributed over various indoor and outdoor areas, on which 10 different event spaces are located. For up to 2,000 people, the location offers a home for almost every occasion.

Away from noble fats to a former ammunition factory. And here the name says it all: the “Fabrik” in the middle of Hamburg Altona is a wonderful gem that mainly stands for district and youth work, culture and concerts. But the atmospheric location can also be used for company parties, anniversaries, conferences, award ceremonies, meetings or product presentations. There is room for a total of around 1,200 people – so there is plenty of room for your ideas!

And with our next location, we are staying with the former factories, which now offer space for vibrant events. A place that was once a production site for harbour cranes and is now a place for art, culture – and events: Kampnagel Centre for Fine Arts! Six different halls offer space for 150 to 2,500 guests. A large foyer is flanked by various variable rooms, making it the ideal place for conferences, product presentations, award ceremonies, events and festivals.

The Hamburg Metropolitan Region

When we say Hamburg, we always mean the Hamburg Metropolitan Region! And here, too, there are some treasures to discover that we don’t want to deprive you of. We start with two locations that are ideal for your upcoming large-scale event – and can be found very close to our wonderful city of Hamburg: Lübeck is known for its maritime atmosphere, brick Gothic, the UNESCO World Heritage setting of the Old Town Island and the long sandy beaches on the Travemünde Baltic Sea coast. The sustainably certified Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck (MUK) the largest event venue, has a total area of 4000 sqm and 15 event rooms for up to 2000 people and guarantees the successful organisation of congresses, conferences and trade fairs – also as a green event.

And we also find exciting venues in Lüneburg. For example, at Leuphana University Lüneburg. The Daniel Libeskind-designed central building offers 1,001 seats in row seating in the “Libeskind Auditorium” and is ideal for events such as concerts, theatre, exhibitions and congresses. The Leuphana Foyer, located directly next door, provides an event space for up to 1,000 people, in addition to other rooms.

Hamburg is looking forward to your next major event! Come and talk to us, we will be happy to advise you! Alternatively, we would like to recommend our Venuefinder to you. We have already set the filter to “large” for you. If you do not find what you are looking for here, please contact us directly!
