Elbphilharmonie now open for discovery

Even before its opening the Elbphilharmonie has become Hamburg’s new landmark. Karin, Florian and Saskia from the Hamburg Convention Bureau have paid an exclusive visit to the “Elphi” and captured these amazing views and insights for you.
Located inside the new design and architecture hub HafenCity and right across from the historic warehouse district and UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt, the Elbphilharmonie overlooks Hamburg’s innovative harbour, one of the world’s largest ports for container ships. Designed to look like a rolling wave its stunning exterior features over 2,000 individually shaped windows and a brick foundation that once served as a warehouse.

We started our tour by embarking on Europe’s longest escalator. The curvy ride was a truly uplifting experience all along the way up to the 8th floor where we couldn’t wait to take in the panoramic view.

We think that the Elbphilharmonie Plaza is the perfect meeting spot, as it offers so much space to explore! It’s open to everyone and you can get a view of four different sides of Hamburg: From the world famous harbour over to the Old Town with the pinnacles of Speicherstadt and traditional churches, to the newly built HafenCity and finally the River Elbe, Hamburg’s connection with the North Sea.

The unique spaces of Hamburg’s new concert hall can be enjoyed both as public and private concert venues.

They are also available for hire to accommodate other event formats such as congresses, conferences and receptions. While the Grand Hall seats 2,100 guests the Recital Hall is designed as a multipurpose space. Equipped with a mobile auditorium and stage elements, the space can be used for functions of up to 500 people. No need for concert tickets if you just want to entertain your guests with food and drinks! The Elbphilharmonie offers you a top choice of Hanseatic culinary treats.
After our first round of discovery we needed a culinary break ourselves and grabbed a quick snack at Störtebeker’s Deck & Deli. But that was just the beginning of our tasting tour inside the Elphi …
Störtebeker Elbphilharmonie Hamburg actually spreads over three floors, so we went downstairs where we were offered appetizing samples of some exquisite and award-winning beers at Taste & Shop. This could be just the place for your next beer tasting incentive.
We finally sat down facing a fabulous view at Störtebeker Beer & Dine restaurant on the 5th floor which has room for groups of up to 200 guests. A look at the menue ensured that we’ll be back soon for top-notch lunching and dining with fresh nordic cuisine and beer cocktails!
Back up at the Plaza we went straight into the lobby of five star hotel Westin Hamburg. This is the place to stay if you want to be right where – amidst the waves of the Elbe – the city of Hamburg opens out into its harbour.
Where cocoa, tea and tobacco used to be stored the hotel’s restaurant spoils its guests with fine aromas, creative delicacies and regional specialties. Its original “Kaispeicher-Kaffee” contains flavours such as cardamom and other spices, paying tribute to the history of the location. A breathtaking view from the balcony reveals the Elphi’s magnitude.
Our viewing of some of the 244 rooms and suites literally marked a high point in our journey of discovery. Situated at a minimum of 40 meters above the surface of the river each of them offers an extraordinary urban panorama as well as generous space and luxury.

We all very much look forward to coming back for meetings and events.

There is a choice of eight conference room variations with capacity up to 220 delegates, all equipped with state-of-the-art technical facilities and individually tailored levels of service, including plenty of catering options.

Thanks to our local partners for opening their doors at Elbphilharmonie!

And all of you outside Hamburg, we much look forward to welcoming you here so you can discover Elphi first-hand. See you soon!
