when your event gets a cultural anchor

Hamburg: Germany’s musical capital, Broadway of the North, full of high culture and subculture – and also at the very top of the cultural league when it comes to meetings and conventions. Numerous exciting locations make it possible to bring that little bit extra culture into the meeting. Thinking out-of-the-box – holding your own meeting in a museum or a theater! Sounds good? Then let yourself be surprised by slightly special meeting possibilities! Clear the stage, raise the curtain and get up on the stage that means the world!

Hamburg is currently working intensively on linking the topics of culture and tourism even more closely. And this is perhaps easier than expected, especially in the MICE sector! Because Hamburg offers an incredibly large portfolio of locations that, in addition to their actual purpose – to transport culture, art or music – also guarantee ideal meetings and that in a colorful, exciting and stimulating setting. Culture and congresses go together! We would like to give you some ideas and suggest some locations, with which you can offer your meeting in Hamburg a cultural framework!

Meetings in between large vessels and fast cars

We stay on the topic of museums. This time, however, it’s not about great artists, but about big ships and fast cars. We’re talking about the Automuseum PROTOTYP and the International Maritime Museum Hamburg.

Anyone who has ever been to the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg knows that everything here revolves around ships and shipping. Several thousand ship models can be seen there and give you the feeling of the big wide world. The International Maritime Museum is located in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt, more precisely in Kaispeicher B, and thus also offers a great setting with its location. Conferences are also possible here. Deck 10″ with its 600 square meters and two roof terraces is particularly suitable. For large events with up to 600 people, the museum foyer can be booked in conjunction with areas on the exhibition decks of Deck 1 and Deck 2.

Things get fast in the Automuseum PROTOTYP. Between sports cars, classics and some real prototypes you can feel the connection between humans and machines. This great location is in the direct vicinity of the Speicherstadt in the HafenCity. It couldn’t be a better fit: Starting in 1855, hard rubber was produced there for the first time in Germany – according to Charles Goodyear’s vulcanization patent. The Automuseum thus offers a unique setting for events of all kinds. Three different Main Lofts (North, South and East) and the PROTOTYP Lounge offer space for a total of almost 1,800 people. The largest space, the Main Loft South, holds 750 guests and scores with a room height of 4.50m.

The stage that means the world

Hamburg is not only known as a port city, but is also considered a haven for musicals, theater and culture. Accordingly, we also have numerous theaters and musical stages, which, in addition to their actual cultural purpose, are also suitable as meeting locations. There are so many possibilities in our city that it would be beyond the scope of this article to list them all and to give you all the facts and figures. Nevertheless, we would like to recommend a few locations to you. We start with the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt, which since 2020 has offered a completely new magical atmosphere as a tailor-made theater for the production “Harry Potter and the cursed child”. In addition to luxuriously appointed foyers, an exclusive lounge, the 1,670-seat theater hall also offers a spectacular and unique experience. The new pavilion, located directly in front of the Mehr! Theater, expands the existing event possibilities and offers additional space for up to 250 people.

Things get a little smaller in the First Stage Theater, which is the house stage of the Hamburg Stage School. At the First Stage Theater, both experienced performers and young talents are offered a stage. Located in the Altona district, the theater has room for 279 people.

Almost unique in Germany is the location of the Schmidt Theaters. The Schmidt Theater, the “Schmidts Tivoli” and the “Schmidtchen” are located directly on Hamburg’s legendary Reeperbahn. With 100 to 612 seats, the three theaters offer a unique atmosphere and bring exclusive stage flair to a wide variety of events.

In addition, Hamburg alone has five atmospheric Stage Entertainment theaters, which are otherwise better known for musical successes such as “The Lion King,” “Mamma Mia,” “Tarzan”, “Hamilton” or “Frozen”. Of course, the houses also lend themselves to congress events of all kinds. And the size is also impressive: The largest theater, the “Stage Theater am Hafen”, seats 2,030 guests, closely followed by the Stage Theater “Neue Flora” with just under 2,000 seats. The “Kehrwieder Theater” in the Speicherstadt is considerably smaller, with space for 320 people and a great mix of historic preservation and modernity.

The big screen!

From the stage we go to the big screen! Because in Hamburg, not only the musical and theater stages offer spaces for meetings, conventions and events, but also the cinemas. And that from the large scale to the small and intimate location. We start with the CinemaxX Hamburg Dammtor. Not only the ideal location – the Dammtor train station is within walking distance as an ICE station – is a plus for the venue: The movie theater is an ideal choice for conferences, roadshows and events. This is because the cinema offers state-of-the-art technology, fully digitalized advertising spaces and large foyers. Planners looking for a location for product presentations in particular will get their money’s worth here when it comes to putting their own brand impressively in the spotlight. In addition, “CinemaxX Hamburg-Harburg”, “CinemaxX Wandsbek” and “Holi Event” welcome MICE-guests.

A very special cinema can be found in the HafenCity in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg’s Speicherstadt warehouse district. The ASTOR Film Lounge is considered an absolute premium cinema, where cineastics are celebrated down to the last detail. The ASTOR offers a doorman, a welcome drink, recliners in the cinema halls and service at the seat. It’s a cinema experience you don’t often find anymore. In addition, the venue also offers room rental, which allows events of all kinds in an unforgettable atmosphere. The exclusive club cinema and the cinema halls can also be booked with catering and technology or equipment.

And what else is there?

Have you ever held a meeting in a church? No? And what does that have to do with the topic of culture? The KulturKirche Altona provides the answer to these questions. Because the doors of this special church are open not only to cultural events, but also to commercial events. The impressive church interior provides perhaps the most unusual setting for events of all kinds. There are 500 seats, divided between 300 pew seats and 200 chairs. “KulturKirche Altona gemeinnützige GmbH” can look back on over 20 years of experience in events. Accordingly, the team also has a strong network that supports every step of the planning and execution of events.

Hamburg is considered the gateway to the world. This reputation is based, among other things, on the fact that countless people have emigrated from the Port of Hamburg to the rest of the world. This story is told by the emigration museum BallinStadt Hamburg. In a total of three houses on 2,500 square meters, guests accompany people on their way to a new life in a new homeland. Among other things, it is possible in BallinStadt to go on an interactive search for emigrated ancestors. And the location is also open for events. Banquet events for up to 350 people and conferences for up to 250 people are possible in this location where you can breathe history. In addition, there are outdoor areas, restaurant, courtyard and a large seminar room for up to 80 people.

If you’re looking for a truly unique venue for your next event, you’re sure to find it at the Planetarium Hamburg. The former water tower, located directly in Hamburg’s city park, houses the Planetarium, one of the world’s longest-serving and at the same time most modern star theaters. And that is an enormous advantage for planners, event and meeting specialists. Because in the “star room” a fascinating image spectacle can be projected onto the fulldome using the latest image and sound technology. Whether architecture, medicine, VR or technical congresses, your content becomes an immersive experience here. The Sternensaal has a capacity of 250 seats and the spacious foyer offers additional flexible space for receptions, gala evenings and presentations.

You see – Hamburg has an incomprehensible range of cultural facets. The doors are open, the stages of the city want to be discovered by your event. Get in touch with us! Because believe it or not – this small pre-selection is only a foretaste of the numerous other possibilities for events in the cultural space!

Let's connect!
