Hamburg – the most English city in Germany. Perhaps even the most English city outside England. In fact, the metropolis at the river Elbe is the second largest city in Germany after Berlin and the largest city in Europe that is not a capital. And indeed, somehow it’s true: Hamburg is “very British”! Anyone who has ever been to Liverpool and Hamburg, for example, will be struck by the similarities between the cities: The big river that is the lifeline of the city, the harbour, the small alleys, the big pompous mansions.<\/p>\n
Grand hotels such as the Hotel Atlantic<\/a> or the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten<\/a>, but also the pubs or restaurants, such as the Old Commercial Room<\/a>, make Hamburg special. Located in the north of Germany, Hamburg is only a stone’s throw away from the UK. There are flights to Hamburg from almost all major English cities. There are direct connections from London (Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted) and Manchester. There are also flights from Dublin and Edinburgh. From numerous other airports you can change planes to reach your destination. Once you arrive in Hamburg, you will see that Hamburg is a city of short distances! The airport, which is only ten kilometres from Hamburg city centre, is perfectly connected to public transport. Here the train not only runs directly to the door of our congress centre, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg<\/a>, but also to the city centre, as both are only a few minutes’ walk apart.<\/p>\n Within the city, you don’t necessarily need a car in Hamburg. It’s the St. Pauli district and the legendary Reeperbahn, of course, which is the heart of Hamburg’s vibrant scene. Not only did the world-famous Beatles start their careers here – John Lennon once said “I might have been born in Liverpool – but I grew up in Hamburg.” – today, the district is still a colourful, exciting and diverse neighbourhood. Small and large clubs like the “Molotow<\/a>“, the “Gr\u00fcnspan” or the “Mojo Club”, theatres like the “Schmidts Tivoli<\/a>“, quaint pubs like “Gretel & Alfons<\/a>” and hip bars and taprooms can be found in the district.<\/p>\n At least as hip as the Reeperbahn is the district \u201eSchanzenviertel\u201c – affectionately called “Schanze” by the people of Hamburg. A lively atmosphere and colourful hustle and bustle – filled to the brim with life, the district reminds of the Lanes in Brighton. Trendy record shops – highly recommended is the \u201eHanseplatte<\/a>\u201c, which not only has records on its shelves but also “Hamburgensien”, i.e. typical Hamburg accessories – rub shoulders with cosy restaurants and caf\u00e9s. A highlight is the brewery pub \u201eAltes M\u00e4dchen<\/a>\u201c, which offers excellent food, beer brewed in the glass brewhouse and a good selection of international craft beer. The \u201eGallopper des Jahres\u201c at Haus 73 is at least as exciting. Hamburg can cover numerous location sizes. From large event halls such as the \u201eAltonaer Fischauktionshalle<\/a>\u201c an old very beautiful fish auction hall directly at Hamburg’s harbour or \u201eSchuppen 52<\/a>\u201c, a classic quayside shed from the imperial era, to hidden gems such as the \u201eElbschmiede Altona\u201c, which exudes a unique and inimitable charm.<\/p>\n In the immediate vicinity of our congress centre there are around 100 hotels of all categories with around 3,500 hotel rooms.
