Successful bid: Leading congress organisers to meet in Hamburg in 2022
Hamburg, 15.1.2021 – An excellent success for Hamburg as a meeting location: 2022 will be the first time for Hamburg to host the Associations & Conference Forum (AC Forum), the Annual Meeting and General Assembly of Europe’s powerful networking platform for associations. Gathering a number of leading European congress organisers e.g. from science associations, medical congresses and major business association meetings, the event offers great potential for the host city. After all, the members of AC Forum organise more than 75 recurring congresses annually, with a total of 260 event days and over 320,000 participants.
In the course of a comprehensive bidding process, the Hamburg Convention Bureau, together with the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg, has been able to convince AC Forum’s jury of the benefits Hamburg has to offer.
Taking place in January 2022, AC Forum will be luring more than 120 representatives, decision-makers and congress organisers from international associations to Hamburg. As part of the meeting, congress planners will represent the interests of their respective association, while also discussing opportunities regarding meeting locations in the coming years.
Hamburg’s Minister for Science and Research, Katharina Fegebank, commented: “I am delighted that Hamburg will be hosting such an important event next year. I would like to warmly congratulate the bidding team, and I very much look forward to seeing the 2022 MICE year – after a long dry spell – getting off to a strong start in January with AC Forum. I am positive that this will create even more awareness for Hamburg as a location for scientific meetings and congresses. This winning bid is an important signal that the scientific community will be able to meet again for joint exchange and it marks a new beginning for the MICE industry following major deprivations caused by the pandemic.”
Hamburg’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Michael Westhagemann, added: “The meeting of leading congress organisers from around the world will provide Hamburg with an excellent opportunity to present itself and its new convention centre – and to showcase itself as a highly attractive location for meetings and events of all kinds. What is more, early 2022 seems like an ideal point in time: at that stage, Hamburg will be able to once again present itself as a modern, innovative and vibrant city that makes it tempting for any organisation to hold an event here. Congratulations to everyone involved in this success, which will certainly bear fruit for many years to come.”
Michael Otremba, managing director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, said: “This is a great milestone for Hamburg as a meeting location. By winning this bid, Hamburg has demonstrated its attractiveness as a destination. The decisive factor for winning this tender was the city’s excellent infrastructure – including the new Congress Center Hamburg, great hotels in the immediate vicinity as well as short distances across the city. Plus, Hamburg has really worked together as a trusted team, with the Hamburg Senate and the local tourism sector collaborating closely throughout the entire tendering process with creativity and commitment!”
Bernd Aufderheide, president and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, further added: “The new CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is setting the bar in the international meeting landscape and will offer perfect conditions for the international Associations & Conference Forum. We are delighted that the new CCH will be hosting the AC Forum in early 2022 – a high-profile event for and by medical and science associations hosted at a state-of-the-art venue.”
The CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is one of the largest and most advanced convention centres in Europe. With 12,000 m² of exhibition space, 12,000 m² of foyer space and providing seating for 12,000 individuals in up to 50 halls, it will offer prime conditions for a wide variety of events from 2021. All areas can be customised to meet the specific requirements of each individual event. With its attractive location in the heart of the city, its strong focus on sustainability and its barrier-free design, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is ranked as one of the world’s top event venues.
Harnessing the opportunities entailed in the 2022 AC Forum, the Hamburg team will be putting together a comprehensive social programme over the coming months, with the aim of showcasing Hamburg’s benefits and strengths in front of all those attending the conference.
By hosting this event, Hamburg is joining the list of renowned cities that have previously been host to the Annual Meeting and General Assembly of AC Forum – such as Vienna, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Istanbul, and London.
