Hamburg recognised as “Germany’s strongest city brand”
The city of Hamburg has been named as “Germany’s strongest city brand”.
“Stadtmarken-Monitor 2020” by branding agency Brandmeyer agency surveyed the image of the 50 largest German cities and found that all age groups perceived Hamburg as the strongest city brand.
The national survey of 10,000 people also found that Germany’s second largest city tops the charts for uniqueness, future development and standard of living. Hamburg claimed the top spot, followed by Munich and Freiburg, in a number of categories: attractiveness, future development, city break destination, likeability, uniqueness and standard of living.
Alongside brand strength, the Stadtmarken Monitor also measured how cities are perceived in terms of security, mobility and digitalisation, with Hamburg ranking first to third across these categories.
Florian Gerdes, Marketing Manager Conventions from the Hamburg Convention Bureau, explains:
“We’re delighted to be recognised as Germany’s strongest city brand, an accolade that’s all the more powerful against the backdrop of the current crisis. Destinations are an essential partner to help and support the business events sector on the road to recovery. A strong city brand underpins Hamburg’s existing support offering for event planners – notably our connections to local businesses, the community and extensive city knowledge.”
Hamburg Convention Bureau is showcasing the city, its meeting and event facilities and innovative economic clusters at IBTM World Virtual, taking place 8 – 10 December. Planners can (virtually) meet Florian and the Hamburg Convention Bureau team by registering to attend the show.
Around 10,000 people representative of the German-speaking population aged 18 and over were surveyed online this summer for the third Stadtmarken-Monitor 2020 by Brandmeyer Markenberatung in Hamburg. Each respondent rated five cities. The values per city are based on the answers of about 1,000 respondents. Hamburg first secured the rank as Germany’s strongest city brand five years ago. The study is refinanced by sales of the report and analyses.
The Hamburg Convention Bureau (HCB) is a division within Hamburg Tourismus GmbH. Already since 2009, the HCB has been responsible for profiling the destination as a globally recognised premium location for B2B events. As part of a municipal marketing organisation, we are also the interface between tourism and business development.
